Batteries And Power
Most cordless circular saws have a maximum speed of 3500 RPM. You can get better models with 4000 to 4800 RPM, while higher-end models have over 5000 RPM. Higher RPMs are a better indicator of torque, but they do not indicate cutting performance. Some models, such as the Worm Drive, offer high torque.
Voltage is represented by the V in 18V and 36V. Voltage refers to the unit of power used in a battery. The majority of cordless circular saws are powered by a Lithium Ion (Liion) battery. These batteries are fast-charging and lighter than other types, and don’t have a memory effect. Many models are powered by 18-volt and 20-volt Lithium batteries. These batteries usually provide enough power to cut a 5 cm piece of wood.
The battery’s life expectancy is measured in Ampere-hour (Ah). It usually ranges from 3 to 5 Ah. Some cordless saws may use nickel-cadmium batteries (Ni-cd), but they lose efficiency as the battery discharges.
Motors: Brushless Or Brushed?
If you used top-notch corded circularsaws, the possibility of encountering the former may have been missed. This is because motors with unlimited power supply don’t really care about this term.
The relationship between friction, energy and efficiency is what makes the difference between brushless and brushed motors. Brushless motors create less friction. They can use more energy because they produce less friction.
These motors usually have efficiency ratings of between 85 and 90 percent. Because of the constant friction between parts, a lot more energy is lost in brushed motors than it takes to make them work efficiently. This results in an average efficiency rating of 75 to 80 percent.
A battery is what generates power in a cordless machine. It is a limited supply and the extra 10% of energy wasted can make the difference between finishing your work on time or having the saw stop working altogether.
Brushless motors also produce less heat. Although all machines produce heat, friction in brushless motors is less so heat is also reduced.
A higher energy efficiency means that your battery can spin the blade more efficiently, producing more RPM and torque. The most powerful circular saws use brushless motors. They range from the 7-1/10cm DeWalt DCS391B to the smaller Black+Decker Max 5.
Capacity For Cutting And Blades
A larger blade will require more power to rotate. Cordless saws are limited in power and cannot handle large blades. The longest length is 7-1/4 inches. This is a rare feature that requires a powerful motor to produce enough rotations/minute to make cutting.
Although smaller blades can produce more torque and generate higher RPMs, they are less powerful to turn. However, they have a limited cutting depth. Many cordless models come with 6-inch blades.
Some brands offer cordless saws with smaller blades and a longer blade of 7-1/10cm as the high-end model.

Handle
