There’s no mystery that buying locally benefits the entire community. It’s an investment in peoples’ health, the environment, sustainability, the local economy and the future. Purchasing directly from local farming communities keeps money circulated and reinvested in the local economy. This helps increase the potential for job creation and strengthens the agricultural economy all-round.
The celebration of local BC farming communities and the ‘Buy Local. Eat Natural.’ movement are actively supported by formal organisations such as the British Columbia Dairy Association (BCDA), British Columbia Agriculture Council (BCAC) and British Columbia Ministry of Agriculture.
Support Superior Quality.
Supporting local farmers ensures the superior quality of locally produced foods. Seasonal farming practices allow local growers to concentrate on flavour rather than shelf-life. Travel time on local foods is significantly reduced, providing maximum freshness and a more nutritious and delicious end product.
Growing Community.
A commitment to supporting local farming communities goes beyond the foods produced. There’s peace-of-mind knowing that your community has access to the highest quality foods every season, and satisfaction in the fact that foods are produced with an awareness of sustainability, environmental issues and a greater purpose for the community’s way of life as a whole.
Food For Thought.
An increased awareness to the benefits of local farming communities and foods leads to an increased consumption of fruits and vegetables, which ultimately supports a healthier community. Many farming families in BC are multi-generational, contributing a wealth of experience and knowledge to the regions understanding of a healthy food culture and way of life.
